About Us
Shotokan Kokusai Karatedo South Africa (formally Shotokan Karatedo South Africa) is South Africa's premier karate organization.
The esteemed organization was founded on 22 July 2000 by Sensei Aneel Dowlath, a 4th Dan Black Belt with an immense passion for the art and a karate exponent for over thirty years. Over the past nine years, SKKSA has fast grown into a dynamic, modern karate organization, whilst still keeping its traditional roots and respecting the traditions of the ancient and noble martial art.
SKKSA teaches karatedo with an eye for technical perfection, both in the dojo and on the competition floor. A strong emphasis is placed on traditional karate, and this knowledge is then applied in innovative ways to competition-based training.
SKKSA is affiliated to Shotokan Karatedo International Swiss Federation (SKISF), lead by Hanshi Rikuta Koga. Strong international ties between South Africa and Switzerland are maintained by yearly visits to training courses, competitions and black-belt gradings in Switzerland. Furthermore, SKKSA prides itself in teaching quality Shotokan karate that is practised around the world, and thus all SKKSA black belts are internationally-graded.
